01

Choose comparable vehicle records

Start with the market, year, engine and drive layout of both candidates. A consumption figure for a hybrid sold in another country may use a different powertrain or test method. Keep the official reference and its conditions visible rather than presenting every Sportage HEV figure as interchangeable.

The petrol and HEV buying guide establishes the relevant model distinctions. For used cars, add current condition and known modifications to the comparison. If the two vehicles differ in more than propulsion, identify those differences so the buyer can understand what the result actually compares.

02

Describe the intended city use

Record monthly distance, ordinary trip length, stationary time, passenger load and typical climate-control use. Separate sustained journeys from repeated short trips. The word city can describe very different routes, so it is not sufficient on its own to predict either a petrol car’s consumption or the hybrid’s advantage.

For a mixed-use customer, consider urban and longer-distance periods separately. Ask whether the pattern changes with the season or business workload. A dealer should avoid applying one favourable route result to every customer, particularly where the customer’s normal operation is unlike the conditions in the supplied record.

03

Evaluate measured figures carefully

Ask whether a claimed result comes from repeated refuelling records, a dashboard average or a short demonstration. Retain distance, dates and the measurement method. A recently reset display can describe a narrow trip rather than the vehicle’s longer-term use, and it should be labelled accordingly.

Use the HEV battery-report review for the separate technical assessment. Do not infer battery condition from one favourable fuel reading. Consumption depends on the journey and complete vehicle, while a battery assessment answers a different technical question. If a result is unexplained or inconsistent, seek appropriate professional review instead of using it to declare a hybrid healthy or defective.

04

Calculate a transparent fuel scenario

Fuel volume equals distance multiplied by litres per 100 kilometres, divided by 100. Multiply by the local price per litre to estimate cost. Keep the assumed figures in the worksheet so the customer can replace them with their own evidence and current local price.

For illustration only, assume 1,800 kilometres per month, 6 L/100 km for one candidate and 8 L/100 km for the other. Those inputs produce 108 and 144 litres. At an assumed 1.25 currency units per litre, the difference is 45 currency units per month. None of these figures is a tested Sportage result or a quoted fuel price.

05

Compare the premium without hiding other costs

In that invented example, a 2,700-unit purchase premium divided by 45 units gives 60 months on fuel difference alone. This is simple arithmetic, not a payback forecast. It excludes financing, resale, repairs and changes in actual mileage or fuel price; adding them may materially change the result.

Use the maintenance-cost worksheet to keep preparation and support separate. The customer should see when a fuel-only comparison omits an identified service requirement. A lower estimated fuel bill is useful information, but it does not establish that the complete ownership cost is lower in every situation.

06

Test a less favourable assumption

Repeat the calculation with a smaller consumption difference or lower annual distance. If the monthly fuel difference halves, the fuel-only recovery period doubles under otherwise unchanged assumptions. This simple sensitivity check shows whether the buying argument depends too heavily on one optimistic input.

For a dealer, keep the evidence status beside each number: measured, manufacturer reference or planning assumption. Avoid mixing those categories in a precise-looking total. If a supplier later provides a relevant driving record, update the worksheet and preserve the method rather than silently replacing a less attractive result.

07

Request the right comparison from Panda

Send the destination, new or used preference, accepted powertrains and normal journey profile. Ask for individual offers with the included preparation and transfer scope clear; the quotation review helps put the commercial comparison on a consistent basis before attaching a fuel estimate.

When a substitute changes engine, drive system or condition, revisit the assumptions. The final customer discussion should explain the likely range, evidence limits and other reasons for choosing the car. It should not reduce a complex purchase to a guaranteed monthly saving calculated from figures that were only examples.
